The Keys, August 2003

It’s always fun to participate in other people’s family traditions. This August I was fortunate enough to go on a family fishing trip to the Florida Keys with the paternal side of Edie’s family. I only broke out the camera on one day, and here are some of the results.

Key West

Despite staying only half an hour away from Key West a number of different times, Edie had never been. This time, however, armed with a rental car and the independence it brings, she was determined to make it all the way to the end of the Keys. We went one afternoon, and spent a few whirlwind hours in Key West. The main tourist strip was packed with t-shirt shops and bars, all of which appeared to have the same frozen drink concoctions swirling around in that machine they use to keep them frozen. The other parts of town, however, could accurately be described as quaint. It reminded me a lot of Savannah. A few shots taken in Key West:

Sunset at Sugarloaf

We stayed in a motel on the gulf side of Sugarloaf Key. The sunsets were fantastic, and seemed to last forever. So even though it’s a bit cliche, here are some shots of a late summer sunset in the Keys:
